Sadly, it’s there; along with a decaying infrastructure unable to keep up with a burgeoning prison population and runaway suburban sprawl. Her deeply flawed protagonists try to make sense of it all while solving the kidnapping of a retired cop. Graphic descriptions of prison life and understaffed hospitals reveal Karin’s eye for the most minute details that make her stories come to life.
