LIONEL PODCAST: You’re Not Going to Believe the Case of Greyston Garcia. Trust Me.

Meet Greyston Garcia. For those who are traumatized by the application of Florida’s Stand Your Ground law in the George Zimmerman case, meet Greyston Garcia. And I hope lactating mothers and people with peacemakers consult their physicians before reading this.

No one argues the facts: Greyston Garcia killed Pedro Roteta in January by stabbing him in the chest following a foot chase through Little Havana after catching Roteta stealing his car radio. Garcia also hid the knife, lied to the cops about stabbing Roteta, and even pawned some other car radios the thief had on him when he died. But Garcia won’t face any time over the killing, thanks to Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law — the same rule at the heart of the Trayvon Martin case. A judge ruled today that Garcia was within his rights to chase the thief and could have feared for his life when Roteta swung a bag of stolen radios at his head. Miami New Times has the story.
