TALKERS presents DC forum on counterfeiting and piracy
U.S. Chamber of Commerce event is informational eye-opener
On September 8, 2006, TALKERS magazine presented a topical forum in association with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at that organization’s headquarters in Washington, DC on “The Cost of Counterfeiting and Piracy.” The forum was moderated by TALKERS publisher Michael Harrison. The panel consisted of radio talk show hosts (in alphabetical order): Jim Bohannon of Westwood One, Blanquita Cullum of Radio America and the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, Jack Riceof WCCO in Minneapolis and Doug Stephan of the nationally syndicated “Good Day” morning show. Also on the panel were John Patrick Feehery, vice president of external affairs of the Motion Picture Association of America and Suzanne Clark, executive vice president and COO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce notes that counterfeiting and piracy significantly affect a wide variety of items including such disparate products as automobile brake pads, prescription drugs, airplane parts, cell phone batteries, health and beauty products, even wine, and eliminates an estimated 750,000 jobs at a cost of $250 billion annually.
On March 23, 2007, TALKERS magazine, in conjunction with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, presented a lively debate at that organization’s headquarters in Washington, DC, to discuss the hot-button issue of immigration reform. Participants in the forum included immigration experts and talk show hosts.
